While many of those who have recovered from COVID-19 remain reluctant to donate plasma to those infected by the virus, a 50-year-old has in fact created a record of sorts by donating plasma as many as 14 times.
Ajay Munot claims he is the first person in the country to donate my plasma 14 times as he shows a certificate given to him by India Book of Records. Munot, who works as a strategic consultant, said it all began after he recovered from COVID-19 in June 2020.
After he recovered, Munot observed there was a widespread demand for plasma with desperate families pleading for plasma from donors through social media. Munot said his repeated donations should help remove the misconceptions from the minds of those who have recovered from COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court suggested to the Delhi government to "chase" celebrities who have recovered from COVID-19 to donate plasma and also give a statement encouraging others to also donate.
The suggestion by a bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rekha Palli came after the court was told that people, who have recovered from COVID, come forward to donate plasma only if some relatives or friends are involved.
The court was also told by some lawyers present in the hearing that some people are also scared of coming to plasma banks or hospitals for donation as there is a possibility they might get infected.
India reported 3.62 lakh cases of the novel coronavirus on Wednesday. The country reported 4,120 deaths on the same day, led by Maharashtra (843) and Karnataka (517).
