Rahul and Priyanka’s courage, determination to visit Lakhimpur Kheri noticed by entire nation, world
The manner in which Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi overcame all obstacles placed by Yogi govt to meet kin of farmers killed in Lakhimpur Kheri generated tremendous goodwill for them and the Congress
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi scored over other opposition leaders by handling the Lakhimpur Kheri violence in a sensitive manner. The courage of Priyanka Gandhi, who was arrested at Sitapur on her way to Lakhimpur Kheri to meet the families of the killed farmers, has generated tremendous goodwill for her and the Congress all over the country.
The entire opposition in the country talked about the manner in which Priyanka Gandhi was detained and later on arrested, with the episode also being noticed the world over. The manner in which Rahul and Priyanka overcame all kinds of obstacles placed in their way by the Yogi govt to meet the families of the farmers killed in Lakhimpur Kheri also won the hearts of the farmers and boosted the morale of the party at a time when Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections are just around the corner.
The protests by Congress workers in different parts of the country, especially in Rajasthan, Punjab and Chattishgarh, also mobilised the support of farmers.
Since the Supreme Court has taken cognizance of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, the Yogi government constituted a panel headed by a retired Allahabad High Court judge to investigate into the entire episode.
The BJP’s top leadership is under pressure to drop Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra and arrest his son Asheesh against whom FIR was belatedly lodged.
The Yogi government has also reached an agreement with farmers and announced Rs 45 lakh to families of each victim and a job for one person of the family. Yogi government is facing tough task as it is under pressure for taking strong measures against culprits.
The BJP in general and the Yogi government in particular have come under heavy criticism from farmers who have alleged that Mishra’s son Ashish was driving the vehicle which caused injuries to farmers leading to their deaths.
Considering the manner in which BJP MP Varun Gandhi is becoming more and more critical of UP government for its poor handling of farmers’ agitation, the party’s other MPs and MLAs may too well follow suit to save themselves from the wrath of farmers in their constituencies.
