AAP victory sets agenda for BJP in Uttar Pradesh: Yogi govt’s performance under voters’ scrutiny
In view of the landslide victory of AAP party in Delhi, BJP is facing a big challenge during the remaining two years before assembly polls are held
The spectacular victory of AAP in Delhi has set agenda for ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh where assembly elections are due in 2022. Chief Minister Yogi Adiyanath must be under pressure as AAP won on the basis of work done by the Kejriwal government during the last five years.
UP voters are watching the developments in Delhi where people rejected communal politics and hate speeches preferred the ruling AAP on the basis of work. At a time when Delhi voters are getting uninterrupted power supply almost free, those living in UP are aware of more than 33 per cent hike in power tariff during the last three years. Perhaps UP voters have to pay highest power tariff in the country.
Kejriwal also got benefit in the education and health sector where UP is much behind in India today. People of the state still remember as to how children died in Gorakhpur Medical College for the lack of oxygen.
There have been several cases of criminal negligence of authorities in various hospitals during the last three years and poor patients suffered.
The biggest challenge before Yogi Government is on law and order front. How Supreme Court had to intervene to shift Unnao rape victim from Lucknow to Delhi and accused persons to Tihar jail and cases too shifted to Delhi, is a sad commentary on functioning of state government. Recently also, a father of rape victim was shot dead as police failed to protect him.
There have been several critical comments from courts regarding failure on law and order front.
So much so brutal use of force against peaceful agitators involved in CAA protests was highlighted by national and international media. In several places, those arrested by the police were released for the lack of proper evidence.
Another big challenge before Yogi Government is to implement central and state welfare schemes through the bureaucracy which has a feudal mindset. During the last three years, CM Yogi Adiyanath himself organised village chaupal for a reality check. He was shocked when people complained benefit of welfare schemes had not reached to them.
The unrest in BJP MLAs against government came to limelight when 200 MLAs staged dharna inside UP Assembly and raised slogans against the style of functioning of government.
