Rebel JD(U) leaders Sharad Yadav, Ali Anwar disqualified from Rajya sabha
JD(U) leader RCP Singh, considered close to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, had filed a petition against Yadav and Anwar demanding their expulsion
Rebel JD(U) MPs Sharad Yadav and Ali Anwar have been disqualified from Rajya Sabha on Sunday. Acting on the petition filed by Nitsh Kumar-led JD(U), Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu, who is also the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, on Monday disqualified both the leaders.
Citing Paragraph 2(1)(A) of Schedule 10 of the Indian Constitution, the Vice-President expelled both the leaders from the Upper House for anti-party activities, said Satya Prakash Mishra, media in-charge and spokesperson of Delhi unit of JD(U).
Popularly known as Anti-defection Law, the schedule 10, paragraph 2 (1) (A) of the Constitution states that a member can be disqualified if he has voluntarily given up his membership of such political party.
JD(U) leader RCP Singh, considered close to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, had filed a petition against Yadav and Anwar demanding their expulsion. In his petition to Naidu, he had contended that two MPs have voluntarily quit the membership of the party by attending a programme organised by RJD.
