Centre won’t hold talks with separatists
The Centre on Friday told the Supreme Court it won't hold talks on resolving the unrest in Kashmir with separatist leaders or those people who demand azaadi. The Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed by the Jammu and Kashmir Bar Association against the use of pellet guns when the Centre made this statement.
Restrictions imposed in parts of Kashmir
In the wake of death of a civilian in security forces firing after militants attacked an army installation, authorities imposed restrictions on assembly of people in parts of north Kashmir's Kupwara district to maintain law and order. The curbs under Section 144 CrPc which prohibits assembly of five or more people have been imposed in Kupwara town, Kralpora, Trehgam and Lalpora Sogam.
Money laundering case against 12 TMC leaders
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday registered a money laundering case in the Narada sting operation case allegedly involving Trinamool Congress leaders. The latest development comes a week after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) lodged an FIR against 12 TMC leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Mukul Roy, Lok Sabha MPs Sultan Ahmed and Saugata Roy among others.
FIPB abolition in final stages, says Jaitley
Abolition of the 25-year-old Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) is in the final lap and this will set the stage for more reforms in the FDI policy, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said on Friday. He also said some "tough steps" are required so that India increasingly becomes a tax-compliant society.
UK police foil active terror plot
The UK police disrupted an terrorist plot with raids in London and south eastern England. Police said six suspects were arrested on terrorism-related charges. Suspects were arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of terrorist acts.
Human rights lawyer given suspended jail term in China
Li Heping, one of China's best-known human rights lawyers has been given a three-year suspended jail term for subverting state power. He was sentenced in a closed-doors trial, Chinese state media said. Li was detained in 2015 as part of a wider government crackdown on dissent.
