Delhi Police arrests woman who accused BJP MP of rape
The woman, who was accused of ‘honey-trapping’ a BJP MP from Gujarat, was on Tuesday sent to police remand for five days. But questions abound following her arrest
The Ghaziabad-based woman arrested by Delhi Police following complaints by a BJP Member of Parliament from Gujarat that he was being blackmailed by her was produced in the Tis Hazari court in Delhi on Tuesday.
While the MP, KC Patel, did not respond to phone calls, the woman claimed she was being framed by the police. Delhi Police told the media that she was arrested on the charge of extortion and Prevention of Corruption Act.
While Delhi Police claimed that the ‘high profile woman’ had levelled similar allegations against another MP last year, which turned out to be false, claims and counter claims have already cast a cloud of contradictions.
Rape versus Honey Trap
While the woman accuses the MP of raping her, the MP in his complaint said he was drugged and photographed in compromising positions. The media quoted the woman as asking how the MP had sex with her if he had been drugged. She also admitted to have video-recorded the sexual act after the MP allegedly went back on promises made.
Place of occurrence
While the woman maintains that she was raped in the MP’s flat in Narmada Apartment for the first time on March 3 this year, the MP claims he was invited to her Ghaziabad residence, where his drinks were spiked leading him to lose his consciousness. He later realised that he had been photographed in compromising positions when the woman demanded he pay her ₹5 crore.
Who invited whom?
The woman claims that the MP had met her in court and sought legal advice to settle issues. He had invited her to his flat for dinner, she said. She also claims that the MP promised to get her more high-profile clients and to introduce her to prominent political leaders.
Court versus Police
The woman is said to have filed a complaint in the Patiala House Court after the police apparently refused to accept her complaint or lodge an FIR on March 15. While she was sitting at the police station, she claims to have received a threatening call from an unknown number. While the Patiala House Court, she claimed, had ordered the police to inquire into her complaint and report back to the court, the MP lodged a complaint of extortion against her on April 29.
Questions that need to be answered
- Why did the MP agree to visit the woman in Ghaziabad ?
- Who introduced them to each other and how and when did they meet ?
- If the woman approached the police on March 15 and the court on March 25, why did the MP wait till April 29 before filing his complaint?
- If Delhi Police has been aware of her role as part of a gang extorting money through honey traps, are there other victims as well?
