Uttarakhand BJP bends over backwards to welcome Amit Shah, transplants well-grown trees
The entire state government machinery worked overtime to give a magnificent welcome to Amit Shah. Dehradun, which was in pathetic condition due to civic body apathy was cleaned up in last ten days
The Uttarakhand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government went overboard to welcome party’s national president Amit Shah during his two day visit to Dehradun, his first after the party won a landslide victory in the state assembly elections held in March .
The state BJP government headed by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat literally left no stone unturned to welcome the party chief who is considered most powerful person after Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The entire state government machinery worked overtime to give a magnificent welcome to Amit Shah. The city of Dehradun, which was in pathetic condition due to civic body apathy, garbage accumulation and bad roads during monsoon, was cleaned and spruced up in the last ten days. The PWD and other government agencies worked round the clock to repair the pot holed roads and garbage was cleaned from roads and even drains. The road dividers were painted fresh.
The entire 25 kilometer road stretch from Jollygrant airport to the city was decorated with party flags, buntings, posters, banners and large cut outs of Amit Shah and other state level leaders. Almost the entire city was splattered with posters, party flags and large bill boards welcoming the BJP national President. The state government, in it’s over enthusiasm, also transplanted large sized date plam trees in front of the state secretariat to give it a new green look.
The entire eye-catching exercise found echo in the social media too. The netizens of Dehradun poured their sentiments about the event. Some even suggested that BJP national president should pay regular visit to Dehradun so that state government wakes up from its slumber and looks after the woes of the people. Some on the social media suggested that Amit Shah should pay visit to other towns of the state as well while others asked whether he would visit hills also.
The BJP national president had reportedly come to take stock of the working of the state government and also to galvanise the party apparatus to prepare for the next general elections. Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat who was facing opposition from a section of the party leaders and legislators was given reprieve by the party chief. Amit Shah turned down any move to replace him.
Interestingly, Trivendra Singh Rawat is close to Amit shah and was part of his team as the party in charge of Jharkhand. He was preferred by Amit Shah for Chief Minister’s post ignoring the claims of many party stalwarts. Trivendra Singh Rawat like PM Modi and Amit Shah was a RSS parcharak. Amit Shah returned to national capital on Wednesday night after his two day tour.
