Why this ‘vikas gando thayo che’?
When Rajinikant’s son-in-law’s Kolaveri di comes right in to tap into the anger
A dubbed Gujarati version of Tamil superhit song Why this Kolaveri Di? mocking the BJP is taking social media by storm. The video, featuring Dhanush, takes potshots at the various failures of the BJP government, including its long shot pledge of introducing the bullet train.
Stemming from the current discontentment in the country, where the economy grew only by 5.7% in the quarter ended June 2017 and the number of workers (as of July 2015) fell to 467.65 million from 480.38 million (in March 2014), this video is likely to touch a raw nerve.
Published by brieflygujarti.com, the youth-oriented video takes a dig at BJP government’s attempt to create smart cities while petrol prices are soaring and corruption and nepotism are on the rise. The singer alleges life is like driving over a pothole and questions why vikas has gone crazy?
It has become the season of no jobs, even the businesses are failing because everyone is being double taxed. The singer states that while the future is bleak and dark, metros are being promised and bullet trains are getting readied.
Accusing the BJP leaders of changing their opinions as soon as they came to power, the song states that the promises of acchhe din were nothing but empty promises just like how empty vessels make the most noise. The false promises bring nothing but tears to one’s eyes and with Vijay Rupani as the Gujarat Chief Minister, life has been going in a ‘reverse gear’. Everything has been turned into a dispute, the singer claims that it has become like one’s in-laws.
Despite there being unrest on the ground and many people dying, the Rupani-led government is extremely happy with the holy cow. The media website BrieflyGujarat, which released the video dedicated the song to all the ‘Bhakt boys’ because ‘vikas’ has no choice.
