An artist must have a broad vision, he should explore everything that life offers, says dancer turned actor Raghav Juyal
A dancer, comedian, TV anchor and now an emerging actor, Raghav Juyal is all set to play a dark character in his his upcoming web series Abhay-2. Juyal who hails from Dehradoon, Uttarakhand started his career with a dance reality show and became very popular for his slow motion moves.
This dancer turned actor was seen in films like ABCD 2, Street Dancer 3D and Nawabzaade. In this conversation, he reveals more about his life and aspirations:
Tell us about your journey
My journey has been quite difficult and in the process I have learnt many things, I have learnt how one must rust one’s own self and one’s own instincts. I have also faced many things which I really don’t want to recall.
Who is Raghav Juyal for public? How do you think people should know you- as an actor, host or dancer?
I think people should know me as a multi-talented Raghav. What I am today is because of myself and my family. I started my career with dancing and then thought I should explore each and every aspect of my personality and what the industry has to offer. This industry noticed my talent and they respect it. So people should know me as a Multi-talented Raghav who can do anything.
Tell us about your upcoming web-series ‘Abhay-2’ and how was your experience?
‘Abhay-2’ is directed by Ken Ghosh sir. It is a gripping thriller story and something different than what I have ever watched and people are going to enjoy. It was a good experience and I got the chance to share screen with senior artists like Chunky Pandey, Ram Kapoor, Kunal Khemu and many more experienced artists and I also got an opportunity to learn many things from them.
Tell us about your character in ‘Abhay-2’?
Well, I am playing a negative character in one episode as in each episode there is a different villain, like in one episode I am the villain, in second, Chunky Pandey sir, then Ram Kapoor, Asha Negi and so on. so there are different layers in all the episodes I had to really work hard in preparing for this role as it was a creative challenge and an emotional risk. For people, it will be unpredictable to see me as an antagonist
Dancing and Acting both are different zones so what’s your future plan? Are you going to make your career in dancing or in Acting?
Nowadays I am enjoying acting because if we see Kishor Kumar he was a singer but he was in acting also. So, I think an artist must have a vision. Let’s say if at present I am interested in acting, someday I may show interest in farming. So any thing can happen. if you have talent then you can survive in any field. What comes to me in future I will enjoy it fully.
What are the projects you are working on at present?
I am working on a project called ‘Bahut Bahut Saman’ with Sanjay Mishra, Ram Kapoor, Amit Das, Nidhi Singh, Rohit Chaudhary-- all the intelligent actors from whom I have learnt many things. This will be on Disney plus Hotstar.
Debate over nepotism in Bollywood has taken a serious turn. What’s your take on this? Did you have to deal with this too?
I must say yes. There is nepotism in every field. Even in our school there is nepotism. How we deal with it and what decision we take-- that depends on us. And yes I have also faced this in the industry. I auditioned for a film and got selected too by a well-known casting director. I got the script and the director too was satisfied with me. But then, I don’t know what happened. Suddenly the casting director called me and said, ‘Raghav, we are sorry as higher authority and actors of the film said they wanted someone else in my place. So, it happens. We can’t do anything in this.
Who was your Inspiration?
If we talk about inspiration then in the field of dance my inspiration is Michael Jackson and in acting I draw a lot of inspiration from Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
