Veteran actress Nimmi passed away in a local hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday. She was 88 and had been ailing for some time. Filmmaker Ashok Shekhar confirmed the news saying that she had been in the hospital for a few days. She had not been keeping well.
The last rites of the actress will take place on Thursday afternoon. Nimmi was married to writer Ali Raza who died in 2007. Nimmi acted in films from 1949 to 1965 and had some great cinema to her credit which includes Barsaat, Aan Udan Khatola, Basant Bahar Mere Mehboob and Love and God.
The actress's niece Sameera Khan when contacted said, “she had been in and out of hospital for the last few years and had been losing her memory too all she would remember was her filmy days which she would discuss with us.''
She added, “she was having breathing issues and was admitted to a hospital close to her home. the last rites will take place tomorrow.''
Nimmi was last spotted at the launch of Komal Nahta show about six months ago and had to be wheeled into the auditorium.
Nimmi started her career with Barsaat and Mehboob Khan had a big role to play for her break in movies. She even married Ali Raza who was a writer for Mehboob Khan films.
