The by-election for Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada resulted in the victory of Congress leader Devti Karma, wife of late Mahendra Karma. She’s ahead by a margin of 2,778 votes
Devti Karma is a former legislator and wife of Congress veteran and former leader of opposition Mahendra Karma. Mahendra Karma was killed in a Moist ambush in May 2013. Right from the beginning, she secured a lead over her rival Ojaswi Karma
The Congress Party has also congratulated for her historic win on the Dantewada seat.
Dantewada is one of regions in Chhattisgarh most affected by Maoist violence where elections in the region are held with enormous security arrangements.
Devti Karma entered politics in 2013 after her husband was ambushed and killed by Maoists with other Congress leaders on May 35, 2013.
She had won the 2013 elections but in 2018 she lost the seat to BJP’s Bhima Mandavi by just a couple of thousand votes.
