A 20-year-old woman from Hathras in Uttar Pradesh has died at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi nearly two weeks after she was gang-raped and tortured, allegedly by four men from her village.
The victim had been in a critical state with multiple fractures and her tongue had been cut.
The woman was first admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital in Aligarh. Later she was shifted to Delhi's Safdarjung hospital on Monday. She was in ICU.
All four accused have been arrested and are in jail. The victim belonged to the SC community, while the accused were from upper caste.
Victim’s family has alleged that the Uttar Pradesh police was not helping them initially and reacted only after public outrage.
The woman was attacked on September 14 at a village in Hathras, some 200 km from Delhi. She was dragged by her dupatta into the fields, where she had been cutting grass with her family.
