An FIR has been lodged against the inspector and other policemen posted at Rampur Kalan police station following an alleged custodial death of a farmer.
According to senior police officer Mahendra Chouhan, a call was made to Dial 100 (police helpline) after a quarrel between Govind and his wife Maya on September 11, following which the police had taken Govind to Rampur Kalan police station. His wife had left for her parents' home.
The FIR has been registered against the inspector and other policemen under IPC and relevant sections of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act
Govind's wife and family have alleged that police thrashed him and later admitted him to a hospital in Saraiyyan. Despite his condition deteriorating, Govind was not shifted to the district hospital, and he later died, he said.
The post-mortem report stated that he died of injuries. Police inspector Ranvijay Singh has been taken off duty and sent to police lines.
The FIR has been registered against the inspector and some policemen under IPC and relevant sections of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Security has been beefed up in the village to avoid any untoward incident, the police officer said.
