The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) has demanded the resignation of Yogi Adityanath-led UP government over the abysmal law and order situation in the state even as the police on Friday arrested UPCC chief Ajay Kumar Lallu along with dozens of party leaders and workers while they were going to meet the family members of Sanjeet Yadav in Kanpur.

They were released in the evening.

In a statement, Lallu said that the law and order in the state was going from bad to worse and the government seemed to have surrendered to goons. “Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is not able to manage the state. He should immediately resign now,” he said.

In the statement, the UPCC chief said that the law and order situation has collapsed due to the police-criminal nexus. Criminals enjoy the patronage of the police and those in power. There is chaos across the state and the public was facing the brunt of this lawlessness.

Referring to the recent spate of crimes in the state, Lallu said that instead of breaking the spine of criminals, the Yogi Government is oppressing Congress workers and implicating them in false cases. The kidnapping of Sanjeet Yadav for ransom and his murder is the result of absence of law and order in the state.

Congress general secretary in-charge of UP, Priyanka Gandhi tweeted: “Law and order has collapsed in UP. People don’t feel safe in their homes, offices or on roads. After Vikram Joshi, now in Kanpur Sanjit Yadav has been murdered after being kidnapped. As per news, police facilitated payment of ransom money to the kidnappers and now he has been murdered. A new gunda raj has emerged. Law and order has surrendered before this jungle raj.”

Former Minister and senior Congress leader RK Chaudhary said that incidents of rape and murder were taking place across the state. Neither police nor those in power are addressing the people’s concerns. As a result, people are feeling compelled to commit self-immolation. Law and order situation has totally collapsed.

He said that Uttar Pradesh has become number one in crime and the worst affected are Dalits against whom the maximum number of crimes is the achievement of the Yogi Government.

Meanwhile, ‘Shraadh’ and ‘Shaanti Paath’ were held in the UPCC office as a mark of anger and frustration among the people over the abysmal state of law and order in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, the Congress workers also got their heads tonsured to express their outrage over the worsening situation in the state.
