Toolkit case: No coercive action against activist Subham Kar Chaudhuri till March 15, orders Delhi court
Anticipatory bail applications of co-accused Nikita Jacob and Shantanu Muluk in the toolkit case will also come up for hearing on March 15
A Delhi Court on Friday extended protection from coercive action to environmental activist Subham Kar Chaudhuri in the farmers’ protests toolkit case registered by the Cyber Crime Cell of Delhi Police.
Listing the matter for hearing on March 15, Additional Sessions Judge Dharmender Rana said, "Meanwhile, no coercive action be taken against the accused", Bar & Bench reported.
Chaudhuri was granted 10-day transit bail by the Bombay High Court earlier this month.
Additional Public Prosecutor Irfan Ahmed informed the court that the anticipatory bail applications of co-accused Nikita Jacob and Shantanu Muluk were coming up for hearing on March 15. Counsel for Chaudhari stated that his client's interim protection was coming to an end today.
Advocate Soutik Banerjee, for Chaudhari, added that his case was different from that of other co-accused as his role was limited to his association with the organization Extinction Rebellion. He had not edited or created the toolkit, Banerjee asserted.
APP Ahmed said that the prosecution had no objections with respect to the extension of his interim protection till the next date.
22-year-old Disha Ravi was recently granted bail by the Delhi Sessions Court holding that bail is rule and jail is exception and citizens cannot be jailed for expressing dissent towards the policies of the ruling dispensation.
