Toolkit case: Environmental Activist Subham Kar Chaudhuri moves Delhi court for anticipatory bail

Environmental activist Subham Kar Chaudhuri has approached a Delhi court seeking anticipatory bail in the 'toolkit' case registered by Cyber Crime Cell of Delhi Police in connection with the ongoing farmers’ protests.

The plea will be heard by Additional Sessions Judge Dharmender Rana on March 12, Bar & Bench reported.

The Bombay High Court at Goa had on March 4 granted a 10-day transit bail to Chaudhuri who claimed that it was co-accused Nikita Jacob, Shantanu Muluk and Disha Ravi who allegedly conspired to create the online “toolkit” and he had nothing to do with the same.

Earlier, Nikita Jacob was granted transit bail for three weeks by the Principal Bench of Bombay High Court after which she moved Delhi Sessions Court for anticipatory bail. Muluk was granted transit bail for 10 days by the Aurangabad Bench of Bombay High Court and this protection was extended till March 9 by the Delhi Sessions Court in his anticipatory bail plea. Both applications are to be taken up on March 15.

22-year-old climate activist Disha Ravi was also granted bail by the Delhi Sessions Court holding that bail is rule and jail is exception and citizens cannot be jailed for expressing dissent towards the policies of the ruling dispensation.
