In a shocking incident, 41-year-old resident of the Kasganj district of Uttar Pradesh, Puran Singh has committed suicide by hanging himself, after he failed to feed his family for five consecutive days, reported Mediavigil.

A daily-wage worker, Puran Singh had been starving for days and he reportedly failed to procure ration under National Food Security Act also, claimed report.

As per the documents, Puran Singh who belonged to the SC category, possessed a ration card issued under the NFSA but could not arrange food for his family – his wife and three daughters. His mother passed away a few years back.

“We have not lit our chullah for last two days...Didn’t have anything to cook.  He was starving. After coming back from Delhi, where he went in search for a job after Rakshabandhan, he committed suicide,” Ramkali, wife of Puran Singh was quoted as saying by Mediavigil.

However, in a shameful act, UP police not only did change the cause of the death in the police diary but registered the case under the category of the death by injury/accident. It is worth mentioning here that UP police comes under CM Yogi Adityanath.

Puran’s family is so poor that they could not manage a shroud, said the report.

“Puran’s dead body was lying at his door steps for almost 18 hours. Neither administration nor local media had any clue about it. They woke up after we called them to ascertain the cause of the death,” commented Abhishek Shrivastav, editor of Mediavigil, adding “This appears to be clear cut case of hunger-death but the administration is in denial mode and trying to cover-up the issue.”

Ironically, ration was sent to Puran’s family immediately after his death but the aggrieved family was busy in last rites.
