Spiritual leader Bhaiyyuji Maharaj died after he allegedly shot himself on Tuesday. He was taken to Indore's Bombay hospital, where he breathed his last. A large number of his supporters gathered in front of the hospital.

Bhayyuji Maharaj, whose original name is Uday Singh Deshmukh, shot himself, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Indore HC Mishra said.

The saint is very popular in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. His ashram is situated in Indore city and top political leaders including Devendra Fadnavis, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar among others are his disciples.

He also played the role of a mediator when India Against Corruption movement led by Anna Hazare was at its peak.

On April 3, 2018, the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in Madhya Pradesh had accorded ministerial status to Bhaiyyuji Maharaj, along with four other sadhus—Computer Baba, Yogendra Mahant, Narmadanand Maharaj and Hariharanand Maharaj.
