Shehla Rashid booked for sedition by Delhi Police over posts on Jammu and Kashmir 

Delhi Police’s special cell has filed a case against Shehla Rashid for her remarks on the ground situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

First Information Report against Shehla Rashid has been registered under Sections 124A (sedition), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion), 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intention to cause riot), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 505 (spreading rumours) of the Indian Penal Code based on a complaint filed by Supreme Court lawyer Alakh Alok Srivastava, reported The Hindu.

Shehla Rashid in a series of tweets had said that the Indian Army was indiscriminately picking up men, raiding houses and torturing people in the valley.

She stated that human rights abuses were being carried out in Kashmir to serve the agenda of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

A case against Shehla was registered on August 19 based on a complaint received from Supreme Court advocate Alakh Alok Srivastav, in which he sought Rashid’s arrest for spreading “fake news”.

Shehla Rashid had said she was ready to give evidences when the Indian Army constitutes an inquiry.

“I have given you my statement. Has the Army initiated any inquiry?” she had said.

“All I have said is based on authentic conversations with people who have come from Kashmir and have absolutely no reason to lie. I have given a lot of statements, not just one. People are running out of LPG cylinders, cooking gas in Kashmir.”

Indian Army had rejected Shehla Rashid's claims and referred to them as "baseless" and "unverified".

“Allegations levelled by Shehla Rashid are baseless and rejected. Such unverified and fake news is spread by inimical elements and organisations to incite unsuspecting population,” the army said in an official statement
