Rahul Gandhi meets visiting Bhutanese PM Lotay Tshering

It is PM Tshering’s first official foreign trip after he assumed office in October

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday met the Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering in Delhi. The Prime Minister of Bhutan is on his three-day visit to India and had arrived in the national capital on Friday.

After the meeting the Congress president tweeted that both the leaders discussed “political situation in the region and other matters of common interest”;


Earlier, Prime Minister Lotay Tshering had met his Indian counterpart PM Narendra Modi and PM Modi had announced ₹4,500 crore assistance to Bhutan.

Later PM Tshering met the President of India Ram Nath Kovind too. According to a Rashtrapati Bhavan statement, “the President reiterated India's commitment to partner in the socio-economic development of Bhutan and to support its 12th Five-Year Plan based on its priorities.”

It is PM Tshering’s first official foreign trip after he assumed office in October. India remains to be Bhutan’s largest trading partner.
