Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress General Secretary (in charge of UP, east), who was on her way to Sonbhadra to meet families of those killed in firing over a land dispute, was on Friday stopped near Mirzapur. The leader who was sitting on a protest in the region has been detained at Narayanpur by police citing that Section 144 of the IPC has been clamped on the region.

The President of the All India Mahila Congress Sushmita Dev has condemned this saying that the CM should rather encourage this gesture instead of detaining Priyanka.

Priyanka Gandhi was scheduled to visit Ubhbha village of Ghoraval tehsil in Uttar Pradesh, according to senior party leaders.

On Wednesday, ten people were killed and over 24 injured over a land dispute in Sonbhadra. A dispute rose allegedly between the Gujjar and Gond communities over a piece of land which turned violent. So far, 24 people in connection with the incident have been arrested for the massacre. A case has been registered against 78 people, 50 of whom are unidentified in this connection.

Under the SC/ST Act, the village head Yagdutt, his brother and others have been charged on the plea of a local named Lallu Singh. CM Yogi Adityanath has directed the DG of Police, OP Singh to be actively involved in the investigation of the case.
