Two days ahead of the monsoon session of the Parliament, Congress party pressed for the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill by staging a protest in New Delhi. Activists from party’s women’s wing took out a ‘jeep rally’ at India Gate on Monday, even as Congress chief Rahul Gandhi wrote to the Prime Minister on the issue in the morning.

Blaming the Narendra Modi government for betraying the women of India on all accounts, Congress workers shouted slogans and raised the issues related to the safety of women and inflation.

Before the rally, head of Mahila Congress, MP Sushmita Dev, attacked the BJP for failing to keep its poll promise of clearing the Women’s Reservation Bill.

Addressing a presser at Congress headquarters, Dev said, "The BJP, which referred to women as nation builders in its 2014 manifesto, has managed to bewilder women by its detrimental actions and inaction of its leaders and workers.”

"The policies of the government are not aimed towards fulfilling its commitment to women, but as damage control to save the face of the Prime Minister and hide BJP’s-RSS’ anti-women agenda,” said Sushmita.

Referring to the trolling of external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, Dev blamed the “misogynist mindset of the ruling party" for unrestrained trolling of women on social media.

“Rather attacks on women are encouraged as many of the most vicious and unrestrained trolls on social media today are being followed by the PM himself. They did not even spare one of their own and mercilessly trolled the most senior women minister of the union cabinet,” noted the Congress leader.
