An aspiring actress who has accused Karim Morani of rape and blackmail shared the details of her trauma in an interview with The Republic. Karim Morani is one of the top Bollywood producers well-known for films like Chennai Express, Happy New Year and Ra.One, and a close friend of Shah Rukh Khan,
The woman came out with her story for the first time during the interview. According to her, she knew the Morani family and had shifted to Mumbai to join the film world as an actress in 2014.
In 2015, Morani allegedly came to her house with wine and forced her to drink. “Next thing I know, I wake up at 4 am. I was numb and shocked. Physically and mentally, I was in a state of shock. Karim was not there. I saw there were marks on my body when I woke up,” the survivor said.
She questioned the Bollywood celebrities who are still on friendly terms with the producer. “I don’t know how SRK could work with him. I don’t want to drag SRK into this but how can such an icon work with this 2G accused and support a man like this. Nobody spoke out about me or backed me up. How can top actors like SRK work with him?” the survivor said.
When she called him next morning and confronted him saying that she would tell it to his wife, Karim Morani reportedly just laughed. He had allegedly taken her photographs and threatened her of getting her killed by the underworld, the survivor said. According to her, Karim Morani even sent her the nude photographs that he had clicked to intimidate her and then would call her or visit her, abusing her repeatedly.
Recounting the horror of it all, she said that gradually she became depressed and had a nervous breakdown. When she could not take it anymore she told it all to Morani’s wife and daughters. “I somehow mustered the courage to file a complaint. I was told it's a high profile case. You have to meet the Commissioner. File a 164 statement. I meet DCP, filed the FIR - and then we went to the hospital,” she said.
The survivor then revealed the difficulties she faced in the hospital and in the court where Morani got anticipatory bail.
Morani is out on anticipatory bail but nobody knew the victim’s story till now. “I thought I should speak because people must know the truth. He has a voice, I don't have a voice. This is the first time that someone wanted to help me, till now nobody's even been willing to speak to me,” she said during the interview.
