To press the demand for development of the Chambal region, late bandit-queen- turned-politician Phoolan Devi’s mother, Moola Devi has released the Chambal Manifesto on Wednesday in Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh.

The 4-page manifesto is a compilation of the demands for the region which included the formation of the Chambal Commission for a scientific study of the issues and challenges faced by the people living in Chambal region along with solutions.

The manifesto also demands for the constitution of the Chambal Development Authority (CDA) for creation of basic infrastructure like roads, generate employment etc.

“This manifesto is for the political parties. We will vote for the one who addresses our demand,” Moola was quoted as saying by the local media.

Social activist Shah Alam who prepared the manifesto after talking to hundreds of people was quoted as saying, “Chambal needs the attention of policymakers but have not got their due over the elections,” he was quoted as saying by the media.

Alam hit the headline in 2017 for covering more than 2,300 km on a bicycle in Chambal region.

“People starve. The young residents migrate to cities for a job while the elderly is left to fend for themselves. Houses lack basic amenities like safe drinking water, schools and hospitals. Their subsistence compelled me and my friends to become a catalyst of their voice through this manifesto,” Alam told the media.

Alam had organised the Jan Sansad (People’s parliament) in the hinterland of Chambal on May 25, 2017 under the aegis of Chambal Study Circle.
