Lockdown woes: Bollywood dancers seek help from film producers
Due to the countrywide lockdown since the last week of March, many daily wage workers of Bollywood are struggling to survive
The corona pandemic has brought the Hindi film industry aka Bollywood to a standstill and it doesn’t seem likely that the film shoots will start anytime soon because of the safety reasons and the need to maintain social distancing.
Because of the countrywide lockdown since the last week of March, many daily wage workers of Bollywood are struggling to survive. Bollywood is synonymous with song and dance. Background dancers play a vital role in Hindi movie songs. They have to keep themselves in good shape and health because they share the screen with the film stars.
Because of the lockdown, many Bollywood dancers are facing tough times as they’re struggling to pay the monthly house rent, medicinal expenses and some even struggling to find meals every day.
As the dancers get older they start losing out on regular work in movies and take to other means of earning money like selling vegetables, driving auto-rickshaws as well as working as housemaid. But because of the lockdown, all their sources of earning money have closed. There’s no other source of income in these trying times.
Some of these Bollywood dancers made a heart-touching video in which they make their plight heard. In the video, you can see various dancers who live in Mumbai but hail from different parts of India are facing numerous problems. Some landlords are threatening to them to evict the houses while some are struggling to feed themselves because of no money. The dancers are appealing Bollywood producers to help the dancers during this tough phase before the film shoots begin again.
