Woman naxal killed in encounter in Chhattisgarh

A woman naxal who carried a reward of Rs five lakh on her head was killed in a gun-battle with security forces in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Narayanpur district on Wednesday, police said.

Two security personnel were injured in the encounter, they added.

The exchange of fire broke out around 8 am in the jungle between Kademeta and Burgum villages under Chhotedongar police station area when a joint team of security forces was out on a counter-insurgency operation, Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg told PTI.

Lynching: Three more Palghar cops suspended

Three more personnel of Kasa police station in Palghar district of Maharashtra were suspended on Wednesday in connection with the April 16 lynching of two sadhus and their driver by a mob, an official said.

Palghar district superintendent of police Gaurav Singh has suspended an assistant sub-inspector and two constables after conducting a departmental inquiry against them, he said.

Earlier, an assistant inspector and sub inspector of Kasa police station, in whose limits the lynching incident took place, were suspended for alleged dereliction of duty.

On Tuesday, thirty-five personnel of the police station were transferred.

Dalit teen raped in UP, neighbour arrested: Police

A 16-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour when she was alone at home in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, police said on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old accused was arrested, they said.

According to the police complaint lodged by the victim' father, the accused entered his house and raped his daughter on Tuesday.

Some villagers caught hold of the accused and thrashed him before handing him over to the police, the officer said.

A case has been registered against the man, and the girl has been sent for medical examination, police said.

A young woman on Wednesday morning gave birth to five children at the district hospital. The newborns include two boys and three girls.

The proud father, Kundan Gautam, said that the mother and all the five children were doing fine.

A resident of Qutulpur village in Ram Nagar area, Kundan Gautam said that he was delighted at this "God's gift".

He said the doctors had told him that his wife would probably have twins, but he never expected five children at one go.

Three killed, 15 injured in suicide attack in Kabul

A suicide attack here left at least three people dead and 15 wounded on Wednesday, the interior ministry reported.

The attack occurred around 8 a.m. (local time) in the Reshkhor area of Chahar-Asiab district, where the Defense Ministry's Special Operation Corps is headquartered, Efe news reported.

"The suicide bomber detonated his explosives attached to his body among the civilians, as a result of which three persons were martyred and 15 of our civilian countrymen were injured," ministry spokesperson Tariq Arian said in a statement.

Man killed as fire breaks out in Shimla village

A fire broke out in a village in Shimla district on Wednesday, leaving one person dead and two others injured, police said.

A temple and six houses were also gutted in the fire, Shimla Superintendent of Police Omapati Jamwal said.

The fire broke out at 4 am in Sistwari village near Chirgaon.

Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze has been brought under control.

7 houses gutted in Himachal blaze

A massive fire in a village in Himachal Pradesh's Shimla district on Wednesday gutted at least seven wooden houses and property worth lakhs of rupees, officials said.

The fire reportedly broke out when the occupants were asleep in Shishtwari village in Chirgaon in Rohru area. One person is missing, while two were injured in the incident.

Rescuers reached the spot, 140 km from the state capital, and evacuated the villagers. The cause of the fire is not yet known. This is the third incident of fire in four days in the area.

On April 26, at least 12 houses were gutted in a fire in Dugyana village in which an elderly woman was burnt alive. On April 27, a fire was reported in the market of Chirgaon.

Bus carrying students meets with mishap in Ayodhya

A bus carrying students from Prayagraj to Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh met with an accident in Ayodhya on Wednesday morning.

Twenty-five students, the bus driver and a police constable were injured in the mishap.

All the seriously injured have been admitted to the district hospital while others with minor injuries have been discharged after first aid.

According to eye witnesses, the bus rammed into a stationary truck in the Bilari area when the driver, apparently, fell asleep.

Two militants killed in overnight operation in J-K's Shopian district

Two militants were killed in an overnight operation by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district, with one of them being gunned down on Wednesday morning, officials said.

The first militant was killed On Tuesday when an encounter broke out between the ultras and the forces at Melhora in the district's Zainapora area, they said.

The militants had fired on a search party and security personnel retaliated, the officials said.

Searches are going on and the operation is in progress, they said.
