Jharkhand: Sedition cases slapped against CAA, NRC protesters in Dhanbad
After a complaint was filed by Dhanbad Circle Officer, the police filed FIR against protestors for allegedly blocking traffic jams and shouting slogans hurting religious sentiments without permission
At a time when people from around the country are protesting the passing of Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens Acts, the recently-formed Jharkhand government has slapped sedition cases on 3000 peaceful protestors in Wasseypur in Dhanbad, Jharkhand. More than 4,000 people took out a march from Ara Mor on Tuesday morning and they raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
After the protest, the administration filed cases 3,000 unidentified persons under Sections 143, 145, 149 (unlawful Assembly), 186, 188 (Obstructing a public servant), 290, 291 (public nuisance), 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others), 153-a, 153-b (attempts to promote disharmony or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will between different religious groups) and 124 (Sedition). Dhanbad SSP Kishore Kaushal confirmed that the sedition case was filed against all the protestors.
After a complaint was filed by Dhanbad Circle Officer Prashant Kumar Laiq, the police filed the FIR against protestors for allegedly blocking traffic jams and shouting slogans hurting religious sentiments without permission. However, no arrests have been made as of now. The protestors are likely to surrender en-masse before the police instead of applying for bail.
On Tuesday, around 4,000 people marched from Ara Mor in Wasseypur and passed through Rangatand Chowk, Puja Talkies, Bekar Bandh, Combined Building Chowk, Luby Circular Road and finally reached at Randhir Verma Chowk from where they returned back to Wasseypur through Court Mor, the railway station and Rangatand Chowk, said a report in Telegraph
They shouted slogans such as “Hum leke rahenge azadi, CAA se azadi, NRC se azadi, NPR se azadi; Ekta ka raj chalega, Hindu-Muslim saath chalega, Na Hindu jalega, na Musalman jalega, tum aag lagaoge to insaan jalega.”
