The report of Medical examination conducted on IAF wing Commander Abhinandan has shown a rib injury, which was probably cause due to an assault by local people in Pakistan on Wednesday, news agency ANI reported.
Abhinandan’s MRI scan had revealed lower spine injury that could have happened upon being ejected from his MiG-21 fighter plane after a fight with Pakistani F-16 jets, ANI quoted a source as saying.
Wing Commander Varthaman will undergo more check-ups and treatment at Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi Cantonment for the next 10 days, the news agency quoted the source as saying.
Abhinandan has been through detailed questioning and medical tests after returned to India on Friday. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also met Abhinandan and listened to a detailed account of his time in confinement.
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday had announced the release of Varthaman, calling it a “peace gesture”. India used diplomatic and military pressure to ensure that Pakistan releases Varthaman unconditionally, according to top sources in New Delhi.
ANI had earlier reported Wing Commander Varthaman as saying that while Pakistani authorities did not physically torture him during the nearly 60 hours he spent in their custody, they subjected him to considerable "mental harassment". Pakistani officials, however, maintained that he was treated in accordance with the Geneva Convention.
