Hindu Mahasabha says ‘gaumutra’ can prevent coronavirus, but RSS cancels meet amid fear

In contradictory actions by right-wing organisations, the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha organised a ‘Gaumutra party’ in Delhi on Friday, convinced that they can defeat coronavirus with cow piss and poop, even as Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh cancelled a three-day annual meeting of its highest decision-making body scheduled to begin in Bengaluru from Sunday due to fear of the disease.

The Hindu Mahasabha had earlier said that coronavirus is the angry avatar of a Hindu god who has unleashed its wrath to punish non-vegetarians. Their miraculous solution to this public health crisis is to rely as they always do on the magical healing properties of the holy cow.

On the other hand, the main Hindu nationalist organisation, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has cancelled the three-day annual meeting of its highest decision-making body scheduled to begin in Bengaluru from Sunday due to coronavirus, said RSS general secretary Suresh 'Bhaiyyaji' Joshi.

The annual meeting of the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS) was to be held in Bengaluru from March 15-17. The meeting was to decide the organisation's future course of action.

"In view of the seriousness of the pandemic COVID-19 and in the light of instructions and advisories issued by the Union and the state governments, the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS) meeting scheduled in Bengaluru has been suspended," Joshi said in a statement.

This conveyed a confusing message about the spread of coronavirus. If it can be cured by ‘gaumutra’, then why should the biggest right-wing organisation cancel its annual meeting?

While the ‘Gaumutra Party’ was scoffed at on Twitter with some hilarious and some satirical posts, the cancellation of the RSS annual meet too prompted people to take a dig at the right-wing organisation.

The RSS was supposed to discuss a host of issues including the roadmap for construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

The organisation was also supposed to review the last year's plan implementation and sharing of experiences and achievements.

BJP's national president J.P. Nadda was also scheduled to participate in the meeting which now stands cancelled due to coronavirus scare.
