While Uttar Pradesh Police has deployed a gunman for the security of lone eyewitness in Hapur lynching case, Samaydeen, it is yet to respond to his statement sent on July 14.

Samaydeen had written to the Meerut range’s Inspector General Ram Kumar, urging that his statement be recorded in presence of a judicial magistrate. He had written, “I want to describe the incident truthfully and in exact details and that is why I request that my statement is recorded in the presence of a judicial magistrate.”

The Meerut IG admitted that he had received the email from Samaydeen, his brother, Yaseen and Dinesh Tomar.

Meanwhile, the UP police has tweeted that the report in the matter has been registered by Yaseen, whereas it has been written by Dinesh Tomar. This indicates that ,in a way, UP police, are building up a defence.

Senior advocate Vrinda Grover told National Herald, “The Uttar Pradesh police has still not been able to explain why they registered a case of a motorcycle collision when they already had the video of the lynching in their possession. In this video, people can be see thrashing the deceased Qasim and the eyewitness Samaydeen; they are beating them up in the name of cow. Then why was a case of road rage registered? Why hasn’t Samaydeen’s statement recorded in presence of a judicial magistrate?”

Interestingly, the police say that they registered Samaydeen’s statement on June 19 and June 24, but Samaydeen refutes it. However, his statement cannot be considered valid because it was not recorded in the presence of a judicial magistrate.

Samaydeen and his brother Yaseen fear for their lives and they are not in a position to return to their village. Samaydeen, surviving such a serious assault on himself, wants to fight this battle for justice because he does not want anyone else to suffer the same fate. Showing his wounds and injuries he says sadly, “The leaders and ministers of the present ruling party, BJP, did not even visit me to see how I am recovering from that assault.”

He repeats it once again that he knew the deceased Qasim and Qasim had nothing to do with the killing of cows.

Samaydeen’s brother Yaseen recounted how he was threatened in Pilakhuwa police station. “There is a Modi-Yogi government at present and the police can file any case on Muslims,” he was told. Dinesh Tomar also broadly said the same thing. He added that he is now under a tremendous pressure to withdraw from the case.
