Former foreign minister and BJP veteran, Sushma Swaraj, passed away on Tuesday evening after a cardiac arrest, leaving political leaders and her legions of admirers in shock and grief. She was 67. Swaraj was cremated with state honours on Wednesday at Lodhi crematorium
Her body was kept at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in the heart of the capital till 2 p.m. for public to pay homage.
Hundreds of people, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and veteran party leader L K Advani, gathered at the Lodhi Road crematorium in Delhi on Wednesday to pay their final respects to former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj.
The body of the long-time BJP leader was brought to the crematorium from the party office.
Many jostled for the last glimpses of their favourite leader as the casket with her mortal remains, wrapped in the tricolour, was put in the hearse in preparation for her final journey.
Others tried to capture images on their mobile phones in the main hall of the BJP headquarters and outside as the van rolled across the street.
