In a tragic incident, five members of a family were found dead in northeast Delhi's Bhajanpura on Wednesday.

According to the police, the highly-decomposed bodies were recovered under mysterious circumstances after they received information at around 11.30 am from neighbours about a foul smell emanating from the house and that the gate of the house was locked from outside.

The bodies seem to have been lying inside the house for 4-5 days.

Acting on the complaint, the police broke the door of the house open and found the five bodies -- three male and two female.

The family -- Shambhunath (43), an e-rickshaw driver, his wife Sunita (38), daughter Kavita (16), sons Sachin (14) and another son -- was living in a rented house in Bhajanpura, according to the sources.

The bodies have been sent for the post mortem and cause of the death is still being ascertained, the police said.

According to NDTV, the crime scene shows no signs of robbery or forced entry.
