More than 35 Congress workers were detained, harassed and threatened of dire consequences by Punjab police for protesting against PM Modi in Jalandhar

More than 35 Congress workers were detained, harassed and threatened of dire consequences by Punjab police for protesting against PM Modi in Jalandhar.

The irate Congress workers led by Himanshu Pathak, vice president of Punjab Congress had assembled at the gate of Lovely Professional University and raised slogans “Chowkidar chor hai” against PM Modi. The Prime Minister was at the university to inaugurate the 106th Indian Science Congress.

Sushil Rinku, a Congress MLA from Jalandhar was also detained by the Jalandhar police from Meethapur Road for protesting against the PM.

Prominent among those who were detained include Sanju Arora, and Lovely Sohal, Devinder Ghai and Ajay Puri, who were later released.

Amid tight security, the Congress workers were protesting against the Rafale deal. They were also holding fake cheques of Rs 15 lakh, reminding PM of his promise to the people during the 2014 general election

Pathak alleged that that they were detained by Kapurthala Police and then taken to the Phagwara – Chandigarh road in a bus, which is almost 20 km far from the venue. They were then handed over to the Jalandhar police.

He accused officials of Jalandhar police for forcefully stopping them and taking them into their custody. Pathak alleged that the police had detained them at Paragpur Police Chowki. He also alleged that the police unlocked their mobile phone and and scanned it violating their Right to Privacy.
