Congress attacks BJP over Shahjahanpur rape victim’s arrest
The Congress slammed UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for shielding Shahjahanpur rape accused Swami Chinmayanand and questioned RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s silence over the issue
The Congress party on Wednesday launched a bitter attack on the ruling BJP over the Shahjahanpur rape victim having been sent to 14-day judicial custody while the accused, BJP leader Swami Chinmayanad, resting in an airconditioned hospital room.
Party spokesperson Rajeev Tyagi also demanded to know from the Uttar Pradesh government as to why Chimayanand has not been booked for rape as of now.
He accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governments of giving protection to criminals and rape accused and wondered if this was the reality of the BJP’s much-publicised “Beti Bacaho…” slogan.
“Our question to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is that he must explain why he is trying to shield Chinmayanand in Shahjahanpur rape case. After coming to power in 2017, Adityanath has also tried to save Chinmayanand in another rape case dating back to 2011,” Tyagi said.
“Our next question is from RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, who positions himself as a champion of Indian culture and traditions and speaks of cultural nationalism, as to why he is silent over Chinmayanand case. Does his silence mean his consent that rapes should continue to happen like this in UP and BJP leaders should continue to rape women?” the Congress leader said.
He also demanded to know as to why the BJP has not expelled Chinmayanand as yet.
