Post mortem reports of six out of 11 members of the family who were found dead under mysterious circumstances in north Delhi’s Burari on July 1 have surfaced. The post mortem reports revealed that six members died due to hanging and no trace of poison was found in their bodies.

“Once all the post mortem reports are out, they will be sent to the Forensic Science lab,” said a police official on condition of anonymity. “It is getting clearer that the family committed suicide, but we will wait for all the reports to come out and the forensic lab to give their inputs,” he added. “The investigation will continue to probe the chances of a possible murder,” he assured. “But as of now, it does not look like there was any involvement of an occultist,” he added.

Dainik Bhaskar, however, reported on Sunday quoting sources that 12 members were present in the Sant Nagar house on the night of June 30, but only 11 bodies were recovered. According to the Bhaskar report, the 12th member was a relative of Tina, Lalit Singh Chundavat’s wife. Both Lalit and Tina are among the 11 dead. Her name was mentioned in the diaries police found in the Burari house, the report mentioned.

But a senior Delhi Police official dismissed the report. “It is misleading, the police has not found a clue for any 12th person,” he said on condition of anonymity.

The police had earlier claimed that the diary entries, allegedly by Lalit, hint that the family would not die after performing the “ritual”. Instead, they thought that they will be saved by Lalit’s father’s spirit, the police had said. According to some other reports, also quoting sources, the police is probing whether the “spirit” mentioned in the note is actually the spirit of Lalit’s father, or whether someone else was present in the house

However, other reports also claimed that the name of a relative of Tina was mentioned in the diary. But the reports said that Lalit was supposed to help his wife’s relative to get out of financial and personal woes after the completion of the alleged ritual that claimed his and his family members’ lives.

CCTV footage, however, reveals that no one had entered or left the house after 11.30 on the night of June 30.

Dinesh Singh Chundavat remained unavailable to verify the claims. This article will be updated with his response once National Herald is able to establish contact with the eldest son of Narayan Kanwar aka Narayan Devi.
