“The Union Defence Minister’s son is an MLA in Uttar Pradesh. BJP leader Kailash Vijayvarghiya’s son is an MLA in Madhya Pradesh. West Bengal BJP leader Mukul Roy’s son is an MLA in West Bengal. Five of the seven members of Shubhendu Adhikari’s family are in politics. But they are all attacking Mamata Banerjee for promoting her dynasty,” said the West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and MP Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday.

He would resign his seat in the Lok Sabha and retire from politics, said the Youth Trinamool Congress chief, if the BJP introduced a Bill in Parliament against dynasties in politics. “I will be the first to vote in favour of the Bill and quit politics, I promise,” he said and added, “Nobody from our family except Mamata Banerjee will be in politics if BJP brings in such a law.”

Directly appealing to the Prime Minister, Banerjee said the law should lay down that only one member of a family will be allowed to hold a political office from Panchayat to Parliament.

BJP has been attacking the West Bengal chief minister for promoting dynastic rule in the party and the state. Abhishek Banerjee has been a special target. Today he retaliated by daring the BJP to commit to bring a law to end dynastic politics.

Taunting the ruling party, his parting shot at today’s rally was, “Those in glass houses should not throw stones at others” before daring the Prime Minister to introduce the legislation against political dynasties.
