Border Security Force seeks FIR against ‘winged intruder’ for spying
On April 17, a pigeon perched itself on the shoulder of a BSF jawan at a post on the Indo-Pak border. A piece of paper which had a mobile phone number written on it was found taped to its leg
In an intriguing case, the Border Security Force (BSF) has sought the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against a ‘winged messenger’.
Following the complaint, the police ‘detained the suspect for spying in Indian territory’.
According to reports, a case has been registered against the ‘intruder pigeon’ at Kahangarh police station in Amritsar.
According to a complaint moved by the BSF official before the Kahangarh police station, on April 17, 2021, at 6.25 PM, a pigeon after flying across the international border perched itself on the shoulder of a BSF jawan named Niraj Kumar at Roranwala post while he was performing the camp guard duty.
The vigilant soldier immediately caught the bird and reported the incident to the Post Commander, Inspector Ompal Singh. The pigeon was then scanned following which BSF officials recovered a piece of paper wrapped with an adhesive tape on its left leg. The paper had a mobile phone number written on it.
The BSF personnel handed over the bird to the police for further action.
Amritsar Senior Superintendent of Police Dhruv Dahiya claimed that since the ‘suspect’ was a bird, he was seeking legal opinion from experts in this regard.
The pigeon is in police ‘custody’ and the police was analysing the mobile number tagged on its leg for a Pakistan connection.
This is not the first such incident of its kind. In the past too, Indian security forces have captured pigeons carrying hate messages or contact numbers at the Indo-Pak border in Amritsar and Gurdaspur districts of Punjab besides Kathua and other places in Jammu and Kashmir.
