A Member of Parliament (MP) of the BJP ally Shiromani Akali Dal has submitted a written complaint against Delhi Police for its inactive and indifferent attitude towards his call for help made for trapped Muslims in northeast Delhi's Maujpur locality during the violence on Wednesday.

At the night of the rampage, MP Naresh Gujral called the Delhi police about 16 Muslims who were inside a house when a mob was trying to barge in and even told them about his designation that he is a Member of Parliament (MP).

He wrote in the complaint, "I explained the urgency of the situation and told the operator that I am a Member of Parliament. At 11:43 pm, I received a confirmation from the Delhi Police that my complaint had been received along with the reference number 946603... However, much to my disappointment, no action was taken on my complaint and those 16 individuals received no assistance whatsoever from the Delhi Police".

The letter further stated, "If this is the situation when a Member of Parliament makes a complaint personally, it is not surprising that certain parts of Delhi continue to burn while the police stands by apathetically".

The 16 Muslims were eventually rescued by some Hindu neighbours, the Akali Dal MP said.

The disagreements between Akali Dal and the BJP first emerged when Gujral said that the Muslims should be included in the new Citizenship Act in an NDTV interview, "We feel the Muslim community should be included in the citizenship law".
