The Deputy Commissioner of Patiala said on Saturday that almost 61 per cent of the procured wheat has been lifted from the mandis.

"Following the procurement of wheat brought by the farmers for sale in the mandis of Patiala district, the process of transportation of the wheat produce from the mandis for its proper storage is also in full swing," said, Deputy Commissioner, Kumar Amit.

The Deputy Commissioner said that out of the total arrival of wheat in the mandis, so far 96 % has been procured and out of this, about 61% lifting work has been completed.

Kumar Amit said that about 45,000 metric tonnes of wheat was being lifted daily from the mandis of Patiala district and within the next three to four days all the mandis of the district would be cleared completely as the remaining wheat crop in the district was only 15 per cent. He said that with more than 85% harvesting, most of the expected arrival of wheat has already reached the mandis. He said that adequate arrangements for transportation of wheat were also in place.

Kumar Amit said that in some mandis of the district the process of procurement and lifting has been completed. According to him, so far Rs 342.28 crore has been paid to the farmers through DBT. As the portal has been amended as per the instructions of union government, so it may take some time to complete the payment process.


Deputy Commissioner thanked the farmers, Arhtiyas and procurement agencies of the district for their unwavering support and cooperation to the administration despite facing the challenges during this season. He said that Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh was personally monitoring the entire wheat procurement process. However, the district administration was also fully committed to ensure that the farmers who brought their produce for sale at all the procurement centers in the district would not face any problem.
