75 IGMC Shimlastaffers quarantined after exposure to accident victim infected with COVID-19

Frontline corona warriors at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla were exposed to the deadly Coronavirus infection after a 19-year-old youth, who was admitted to the prestigious health care institution of the state after he met with an accident on Saturday afternoon, tested positive for COVID-19.
The victim succumbed to his injuries before his positive report came out on Sunday.
Nearly 75 staff members comprising doctors, staff nurses and other paramedical staff of the IGMC, who came in contact with the patient, have been quarantined and the departments where the patient was taken during treatment have been sanitised.
Sources in IGMC disclosed that four departments — Orthopaedics, Surgery, Anaesthesia and Medicine — were involved in his treatment and over 73 staff members, including doctors, nurses, technicians and others have been placed under quarantine.
A spokesperson of the IGMC disclosed to the media that the man was admitted to the hospital on Saturday afternoon with severe injuries and his sample tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday. The man, however, died on Saturday at about 10.30 pm.
According to reports, the man sustained injuries while unloading office furniture and other heavy good from a truck at Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Summer Hill on Saturday afternoon.
He was rushed to the IGMC, with femur and ribs crushed, where he was operated upon. The youth had a travel history to Delhi.
