Tik Tik Tik: the Tamil flick making its mark for special effects
Although the film has got mixed reviews about its plot and screenplay (the film seems to be inspired by Hollywood’s Armageddon), everyone admits that the visual effects of the film are praiseworthy
Promoted as India’s first sci-fi film, Tik Tik Tik is winning hearts across the country for its special effects in a significantly lesser budget than flicks from Hollywood.
The project started in 2016. Tik Tik Tik, written and directed by Shakti Soundar Rajan, is not an ordinary film. It has an ambitious storyline - focusing on an asteroid attack, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), magician and escapologist. And it was no easy job to produce the required special effects to create that impact.
After two years, when the film hit the screens on June 21, it was the movie’s special effects that have grabbed eyeballs.
During the movie’s production, the director had claimed that they have not sought any help from overseas to create the film’s visual effects, though a lot of research had been put into it.
More than 800 technicians worked day in day out to create the visual feat, director Shakti Soundar Rajan had told Chennai times.
Shakti has a keen interest in experimenting with different genres. He debuted with Naayanam, but his previous flick, Miruthan, was the first-ever Indian zombie film and now he can boast of a successful space sci-fi thriller too. The film has Jayam Ravi and Nivetha Pethuraj in lead roles.
Jayam Ravi thanked his fans on Twitter for the overwhelming response the film has received.
Although the film has got mixed reviews about its plot and screenplay (the film seems to be inspired by Hollywood’s Armageddon), everyone admits that the visual effects of the film are praiseworthy.
As for the first space film of India, Tik Tik Tik, as a whole, comes out to be quite unscientific. The director is being criticised for not being original and lacking imagination.
