Women still struggle to get their rights and recognition: Kiran Rao
Filmmaker Kiran Rao said it is sad that women have been suppressed through generations and it is “shameful” that they have to fight for equal pay even today. The director said women have always had to struggle to fight for their rights.
“Historically, girls and women have been suppressed. It’s known to all that for 1,000 years, women have been given secondary position. Not in India, but in other parts of the world women got voting rights much later. All over the world, women have to struggle to get their rights and recognition. If we talk about pay, the fact that women have to fight for ‘equal pay for equal work’ is shameful,” said Kiran at the trailer launch of her upcoming production, Secret Superstar.
The film features Zaira Wasim, Meher Vij and Aamir Khan in lead roles. It chronicles the story of a child who aspires to be a singer.
Sylvester Stallone to guest star on This Is Us season 2
Action star Sylvester Stallone is set to make a special appearance in the second season of This Is Us. Showrunner Dan Fogelman made the revelation at the TCA summer press tour.
The 71-year-old veteran actor will appear in a guest role opposite Justin Hartley’s character as a co-star in his new film within the series.
Stallone is coming in as himself in the show but playing a character in the film “who’s a mentor figure who starts bringing up some stuff for Justin’s character involving Jack and his relationship with his own father,” he added.
Fogelman said that Stallone’s character talks to Hartley’s character about themes that hit home for him in a beautiful monologue about life. He talks about his life experience, loss and ageing and the business.
Stallone previously appeared with This Is Us star Milo Ventimiglia in the 2006 film Rocky Balboa, though it is doubtful the two will share any screen time in the NBC series due to its multiple timelines.
