Amazon’s 'Jai Bhim' emerges as one of India’s most watched films; Madhavan, Arya, Vishal Krishna heap praise
Amazon Prime Video’s 'Jai Bhim' which started streaming on November 2, has emerged as one of the most avidly watched Indian films across the world
Amazon Prime Video’s Jai Bhim which started streaming on November 2, has emerged as one of the most avidly watched Indian films across the world.
On the highly-respected IMDb movie charts, it has emerged with a 9.6 IMDb which is higher than Frank Darabont’s Shawshank Redemption which scored a 9.3 on the website.
The film’s leading man Suriya’s colleagues from the Tamil film industry are heaping praises on Jai Bhim.
R Madhavan who is one of Suriya’s contemporaries is glowing with pride and praise for Jai Bhim. “I am so very proud and happy for the entire team. It’s a brave and sincere effort. Makes people want to become proactive about the world around them. So proud of Suriya.”
Says the Sarpatta Parambarai actor Arya, “I really loved the film. Hats off to Suriya sir for acting and producing such an inspiring film. At the end of Jai Bhim, one feels very guilty that such casteism and monstrous discrimination exist and we are sitting quietly on it.”
Star, actor, producer Vishal Krishna says Jai Bhim is a film that makes Tamil Nadu proud. “It is a hard-hitting powerful film, and look at how far it has reached in no time at all! We are all so proud of the film and Suriya Sir.”
Filmmaker Ananth Mahadevan who has made several commendable biopics including one on the unsung freedom fighter Gaur Hari Dastaan says, “Popular Indian cinema has often reflected social issues in its work. Whether it is political revolution (Inquilab) police brutality (Meri Awaaz Suno) or casteism now in Jai Bhim. The common factor in all these films is the necessity to make it palatable to a wider audience. My Marathi film MAI GHAT (official selection and winner at the International Competition, IFFI 2019) was on police brutality and custodial death ..a true story that occurred in Kerala. It was about lower caste exploitation….by their own caste in the police. Which is what happens often."
Jai Bhim is part of the 4-film deal that Suriya’s production house 2D Entertainment made with Amazon. The line-up includes Jai Bhim, a legal drama starring Suriya along with Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh, Lijomol Jose, Rajisha Vijayan and Manikandan, Udanpirappe a family drama starring Sasi Kumar, Suriya’s wife Jyotika, Samudrakani, Soori, Kalaiyarasan, Niveditha Sathish and Siddhu; Oh My doG a kid’s film starring Arnav Vijay, Arun Vijay, Vijay Kumar, Mahima Nambiar and Vinay Rai; as well as Raame Aandalum Raavane Aandalum, a satire comedy-drama starring Ramya Pandian, Vani Bhojan, Mithun Manickam and Vadivel Murugan.
