A strange matter of anti-vaxxers has come to notice in Gurugram. The local administration and the Chief Minister's office have apparently received numerous letters from people saying that they do not wish to take the COVID-19 vaccine. They have alleged that the vaccine contains cow blood, meat or fat. The health department in Nuh received letters stating that the vaccine contains pig parts and can possibly make one infertile.
Vaccine turnout in the region, especially in rural areas, is very poor. People are making unsubstantiated claims about the vaccine and are not ready to get inoculated. A resident even claimed that the vaccine contains parts of aborted fetus, pigs and chimpanzees. There are others who after more than a year of the COVID-19 pandemic, are not ready to believe that this is a real disease.
People fear that taking the vaccine will hurt their religious sentiments because of their belief that animal parts have been added to the vaccine.
Meanwhile, health department officials in Nuh are trying to kill all such rumours. An official said that they are conducting meetings with the locals to address all concerns. Radio and other multimedia platforms are also being used to spread awareness.
However, since no one can be forced to take the COVID-19 vaccine, it is getting hard to get more people vaccinated. Officials have registered their helplessness with the situation and said that they cannot do anything if someone doesn't want to take the vaccine.
