Over 200 school students test COVID-19 positive in Maharashtra

VO-1 With Maharashtra witnessing a surge of COVID-19 cases, 225 students, 4 teachers and some non-teaching staffers have tested positive for the virus in a single hostel of a residential school in Washim. The school which has been declared a containment zone is a residential school-cum-hostel located in Degaon village in Risod tehsil.

VO-2 According to the media reports, the school has over 300 students from the Vidarbha region, mostly from Amravati and Yavatmal. These two districts have also contributed to a spike in Covid-19 cases in recent weeks. The school premises have been isolated and all Covid-19 SOPs are being strictly implemented.

VO -3 Maharashtra on Wednesday witnessed a significant rise in coronavirus cases, with more than 8,000 new infections coming to light in a single day after a gap of over four months, health officials said. With 80 deaths reported on Wednesday, the state’s fatality count rose to 51,937, the government said. The state has so far reported a total of 21,21,119 COVID-19 cases, as per official figures.

VO -4CM Uddhav Thackeray had asked people of state to follow “COVID- appropriate” behaviour and safety norms, and said he would observe for a week to 15 days and then decide whether to impose another lockdown. In the meantime, the BMC has decided to shut Mumbai's iconic Oval Maidan from Feb 26 in wake of rising Covid-19 cases in the city.

VO- 5 Meanwhile, India reported 16,738 new Covid-19 cases and 138 deaths due to the infection in the last 24 hours, The Union Health ministry said on Thursday. The total coronavirus positive cases in the country has mounted to 1,10,46,914, while the active cases crossed 1.50 lakh mark at 1,51,708, the official data revealed.
