Leopard attacks woman in Mumbai, here's how she defends herself

An elderly woman barely managed to survive a sudden and unexpected attack by a leopard in Mumbai's Aarey Colony area on September 29 evening. The woman was later rushed to a hospital as she received minor injuries. The incident was recorded in a CCTV camera.

The incident took place around 7.45 pm at Visava Workers Colony in Aarey. Nirmaladevi Rambadan Singh was attacked by the leopard when she was sitting in front of her house. She used her walking cane to repulse the attack. Later, other members of her family rushed to her rescue upon hearing her cry for help. She suffered attack marks on her face, chest and back.

The forest officials suspect that the recent attacks are being carried out by a single leopardess, who is around two years old.

Before this, in a similar incident, a four-year-old boy had to be rescued by the locals. Around 8.30 pm on September 26, a 4-year-old boy was dragged by a leopard while he was playing outside his house. A resident rushed to his rescue and started chasing the leopard, it dropped the child in the bushes. The child suffered injuries to his back and head.

Leopard attacks have been reported multiple times in the area recently. Reportedly, after four leopard attacks within a month’s time, forest officials and conservationists have set up camera traps and trap cages to avoid man-animal conflict in the forest.
