Horrific! Bihar Dalit man forced to lick spit

In a horrific incident in Bihar's Gaya, a Dalit man was forced to lick spit from the floor during a panchayat in which he was pulled up over his love affair. A video of the incident that went viral on social media shows the man kneeling down and licking spit from the floor. Several people spat on the floor during the panchayat, which was then licked by the Dalit victim, as a "punishment" against his affair.

According to the media reports, the panchayat action came after the Dalit victim owned up to his love affair. The victim had eloped with a woman recently. The woman's family caught hold of the couple and brought the Dalit man to the panchayat. He was then made to go through the inhuman torture in front of the panchayat members and sarpanch.

A video of the incident went viral on social media and Gaya Police took notice. Gaya SSP Aditya Kumar took cognizance of the atrocity and lodged an FIR. Six people have been arrested so far and the SSP has said action will be taken against all those who are involved.
