RBI in its report said that India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is likely to contract by 8.6 percent for the July-September period, which means India will enter into a recession for the first time in history in the first half of 2020-21
Senior Congress leader and former finance minister in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, P Chidambaram attacked the government and said “Let’s not celebrate -8.6%, it is a matter of deep regret that economy is in recession & Govt is trying to manipulate and manage their headlines.”

A day after RBI released its report stating the historic recession, Narendra Modi government announced a slew of stimulus measures to boost the Indian economy. Congress, however, termed the stimulus as another move to deflect the attention of people.
