Corona Vaccine: 1 Admitted To ICU, 51 Cases of Minor Reactions

A 22-year-old security guard at AIIMS, Delhi was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) as he developed an allergic reaction after receiving coronavirus vaccine on the first day of the vaccination drive. Reports claimed that the guard suffered headache, rash, after getting the first shot.

Besides, 51 cases of adverse events following immunisation have been reported so far after Covid 19 vaccines were administered to healthcare workers on the first day of the vaccination drive.

Delhi Health Minister Satyender Jain said today that there have been 51 cases of minor complications reported from the coronavirus vaccine that was rolled out across the country yesterday.

"There have been 51 minor incidents yesterday where there were some minor complications and one was a bit serious," news agency ANI quoted Satyender Jain as saying.

The health ministry, on the other hand, asserted that no case of post-inoculation hospitalisation was reported in the country

Meanwhile, as many as 14 cases of adverse reaction to the Covid vaccines have been reported in West Bengal on the first day of the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive on Saturday. 11 mild adverse events following immunisation cases were reported in Telangana. Also, three cases of allergic reaction for Covid vaccines have been reported from Odisha.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched India's vaccination drive against the novel coronavirus via video conferencing.

Earlier, Congress leader Manish Tewari raised questions over the emergency use approval given to the indigenously developed vaccine Covaxin and alleged that it was "sans due process".

In a Tweet, Tewari said: "As vaccine rollout begins, it is all a bit puzzling India has no policy framework for authorising emergency use. Yet, two vaccines have been approved for restricted use in an emergency situation."
