The Congress party will be contesting the crucial 2022 UP assembly elections under the leadership of the party’s general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, former union minister Salman Khurshid announced on September 12. He also asserted that Congress will go solo and won’t form an alliance with any party.
“We will be fighting the upcoming Assembly elections under the leadership of Priyanka Gandhi. She is working hard to ensure that we win,” Salman Khurshid told media persons.
When asked about the probable chief ministerial face, the Congress leader, however, made it clear that the face for the CM candidate was not decided as of now.
Meanwhile, talking about Congress’ manifesto for the forthcoming elections, Salman Khurshid said that it will include the voices of the common people.

“The manifesto this time will not be prepared on the recommendation of the experts. It will include the general issues of the local people. It will make them happy and they will be able to say that this manifesto is their own.”
“The party members have been visiting Assemblies and trying to contact people and know the problems being faced by the locals,” Salman Khurshid, who was in Agra to meet people to be able to prepare the manifesto, added.
Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday visited Uttar Pradesh on a three-day tour to review the party’s preparedness in the run up to the crucial polls in the state.
Addressing party workers recently, Priyanka Gandhi referred to recent panchayat election performance saying the Congress would have presidents in “58,000 gram sabhas” and asked party workers and office-bearers to “go to every village and every household” spreading “the Congress party's mission” in Uttar Pradesh.
